Themes
Choose a terminal palette and app appearance separately.
Availability
Partially implemented in stable. Read the limits below before relying on this workflow.
Reviewed against stable v0.5.1. Rust candidate additions are labeled separately. Release status.
The pain this solves
- A terminal palette that clashes with the desktop can make long sessions harder to scan.
What ships with it
- The terminal color picker lists eight presets.
- The app chrome has separate System, Light, and Dark appearance choices.
- The stable settings UI does not expose the advertised full custom palette editor.
Questions this answers
- How many terminal color presets ship in Chau7?
- Can I switch between light and dark app appearance?
- Can I edit every color in a custom theme from Settings?
How it works
The terminal color picker exposes eight named presets. Each preset defines the terminal background, foreground, cursor, selection, and ANSI color values.
The app appearance selector separately supports System, Light, and Dark. This choice controls application appearance and is distinct from the terminal's selected color scheme.
The model can store a custom color-scheme value, but the stable settings UI shown here exposes the preset picker rather than the advertised full palette editor.
Why it matters
Separate app appearance and terminal color controls make it easier to tune the window and terminal text independently. The published preset count is limited to the schemes present in the stable source.
Frequently asked questions
How many built-in terminal schemes are there?
Eight presets are listed in v0.5.1.
Does System, Light, or Dark change the terminal palette?
Those are app appearance options; terminal color schemes use a separate picker.
Can I customize each color in a settings editor?
The stable settings picker exposes presets. Do not advertise a full in-app custom palette editor based on the stored custom-scheme model alone.
