Session Recording
Recorder code exists; stable recording is not an integrated user feature.
Availability
The advertised workflow is not available as a connected feature in stable v0.5.1. Source components or future work do not make it a shipped capability.
Reviewed against stable v0.5.1. Rust candidate additions are labeled separately. Release status.
The pain this solves
- A recorder API is not useful for review without a reachable capture workflow.
- Recording claims should state what is captured and how users start it.
What ships with it
- Stable source defines timestamped frame-recording APIs.
- No production caller or user-facing recording flow was found.
- The unreleased candidate has recorder source; runtime acceptance is pending.
Questions this answers
- Is session recording wired into stable Chau7?
- Does stable Chau7 capture every input and output event?
- What recording source exists in the Rust candidate?
How it works
The stable source defines a session recorder with start, frame-recording, and load methods. Its frame model stores event data and timing information.
A static-source search found no production caller for the recorder methods and no user-facing start/stop flow. The source therefore does not support claims that stable Chau7 automatically records every byte, keystroke, color change, cursor movement, or output event.
The unreleased Rust/GPUI candidate has a more developed recorder path, but that code is not evidence that the stable Swift app ships recording. Candidate status and runtime acceptance must be stated separately.
Why it matters
A recorder API is useful source infrastructure, but users need a real capture and playback workflow before the website can claim built-in session recording.
In the Rust/GPUI candidate
The unreleased Rust/GPUI candidate source includes a session recorder, frame-recording wrapper, replay-text logic, and a Session Timeline menu item. This is a static source finding only; runtime acceptance for the 0.6rc candidate is pending.

Frequently asked questions
Can I record a terminal session in stable Chau7?
The audited stable source contains recorder APIs but no production wiring or user-facing recording flow was found.
Does the candidate contain more recording code?
Yes. The unreleased candidate source includes recorder and replay logic; runtime acceptance is pending.
