Shell Integration
Keep Chau7 informed about shell and directory state.
Availability
Partially implemented in stable. Read the limits below before relying on this workflow.
Reviewed against stable v0.5.1. Rust candidate additions are labeled separately. Release status.
The pain this solves
- Chau7 needs current shell context to show working-directory and command status information.
What ships with it
- Built-in zsh, bash, and fish integration reports directory, repository, branch, and exit-status context.
- Integration uses prompt and directory-change hooks managed by the app.
- It is not a user-configurable arbitrary pre/post command hook runner.
Questions this answers
- Which shell events does Chau7's integration report?
- Can I run my own script before and after every command?
- Which shells have built-in integration?
How it works
Chau7 generates shell integration for zsh, bash, and fish. The scripts use shell prompt and directory-change hooks to report working directory and repository context through terminal control sequences.
The integration also reports command exit status from the prompt lifecycle. These events support Chau7's terminal state and context features.
The stable source does not expose arbitrary user-configured pre-command, post-command, or on-error scripts with command text, duration, and environment variables.
Why it matters
Built-in shell integration gives Chau7 context about where a session is working and whether a command returned successfully. Describe the integration events that exist rather than presenting Chau7 as a general hook framework.
Frequently asked questions
Which shells receive built-in integration?
The stable scripts include zsh, bash, and fish paths.
Does the integration report directory and repository changes?
Yes. Prompt and directory-change hooks emit current-directory and repository context.
Can I configure arbitrary pre/post command scripts in Chau7?
No. The shell integration is app-managed and does not expose the general custom hook runner described by the old site copy.
