MCP Telemetry Resources
Read recorded session and run telemetry through MCP resources.
Availability
Partially implemented in stable. Read the limits below before relying on this workflow.
Reviewed against stable v0.5.1. Rust candidate additions are labeled separately. Release status.
The pain this solves
- Clients need a read-only way to fetch telemetry without using state-changing tools.
- Invented resource URIs can cause clients to query endpoints that do not exist.
What ships with it
- Three listed URIs expose recent runs, the session index, and current sessions.
- A dynamic read path supports chau7://telemetry/runs/<run_id> without making it a fourth listed resource.
- Tab listing and control use separate MCP tools.
Questions this answers
- What MCP resources does Chau7 expose?
- How can AI agents read terminal state without running commands?
- What is the difference between MCP tools and MCP resources?
- Can AI agents list open tabs without side effects?
How it works
The stable resources/list response contains three URIs: chau7://telemetry/runs, chau7://telemetry/sessions, and chau7://telemetry/sessions/current. These return recent run summaries, the session index, and current sessions.
Resource reads are read-only telemetry queries. A further read path accepts chau7://telemetry/runs/<run_id> to retrieve an individual run, but this dynamic URI is not a fourth listed resource.
These resources do not expose a tab list or current MCP configuration. Tab inspection and control are provided by separate MCP tools.
Why it matters
Read-only resource reads give a client access to recorded telemetry without using a state-changing tool. Naming the supported URIs accurately helps a client distinguish telemetry resources from tab operations.
Frequently asked questions
How many resources are listed?
Three: chau7://telemetry/runs, chau7://telemetry/sessions, and chau7://telemetry/sessions/current.
Can I read one specific run?
Yes. The read handler also accepts chau7://telemetry/runs/<run_id>; that dynamic path is not separately listed in resources/list.
Can resources list open tabs?
No. The stable listed resources cover telemetry runs and sessions. Use the separate tab_list tool for tab information.
