TERMINAL CORE

OSC 8 Hyperlinks

Make supported terminal links actionable.

Availability

Implemented in the stable source; configuration and compatibility limits are described below.

Reviewed against stable v0.5.1. Rust candidate additions are labeled separately. Release status.

The pain this solves

  • Links in logs are easier to act on when the terminal can open them.
  • OSC 8 links and text URL matching have different coverage.

What ships with it

  • Stable Rust core stores OSC 8 hyperlink IDs and URLs.
  • The view has a Cmd-click path for OSC 8 links.
  • A separate text matcher handles supported URLs and paths.

Questions this answers

  • Does Chau7 support OSC 8 hyperlinks?
  • Can the terminal view open supported text URLs and paths?
  • Are all URL schemes recognized?

How it works

The stable Rust terminal core tracks OSC 8 hyperlink identifiers and associated URLs. The macOS terminal view styles those cells and opens an OSC 8 URL through its click handling.

The view also has a separate text-based URL/path matching path. This is not evidence that every scheme, malformed URL, or local path is recognized.

Support depends on the sequence or text form emitted by the program and the click gesture Chau7 expects. Do not promise universal URL detection or every multiplexer passthrough.

Why it matters

Explicit terminal links can make build output and logs easier to navigate. Separating OSC 8 from text matching gives users a more accurate account of what the renderer can act on.

Frequently asked questions

Does Chau7 support OSC 8?

Yes. The stable terminal core stores OSC 8 link IDs and the view has a Cmd-click path for those links.

Are all plain URLs and schemes detected?

No universal scheme coverage is claimed; text URL and path matching is a separate implementation.
